Summary of 2019 FIMSA Council Meeting in Beijing

2019 FIMSA Council Meeting was successfully held on October 20, 2019 during the 17th International Congress of Immunology (IUIS 2019) at China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing, China.


Dr. Laura Mackay, President of FIMSA, presented FIMSA 9 Travel Grants for IUIS 2019, which supported young immunologists from FIMSA-member countries and regions to attend the congress. The awardees were: Mandeep Singh from New Zealand, Neelanjana Sarmah, Gundappa Saha and Debarati Mukherjee from India, Jhan-Jie Peng from Taiwan, China, Young Joon Park from Korea, Nazanin Fathi (absent), Milad Moloudizargari and Mohammad Javad Mousavi from Iran, Witida Laopajon from Thailand.


Dr. Xuetao Cao, Secretary General of FIMSA, presented FIMSA Councillor Certificates, designed and made by Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI) to each council member.


The meeting discussed plans for the coming congress and advanced course. FIMSA Advanced Course in 2020 will be held on December 6 and 7, 2020, in Chiba, Japan, on the occasion of 2020 Annual Meeting of Japanese Society for Immunology (JSI). 40 Travel Grants and 50 accommodation awards ($500×5 nights) will be offered by JSI. FIMSA Councillors will be invited to give speeches in the Course, which will be a good opportunity for the 2020 FIMSA Council Meeting. FIMSA Congress in 2021 will be held in Korea, and FIMSA Congress in 2024 will be held in Taiwan, China.

The meeting also decided to create a women speaker database on FIMSA website. The database will be used to select women speakers and chairs for various international conferences. To maintain the high standard of the database, only FIMSA Councillors can provide and update recommendations and lists of women speakers. The database will be maintained by FIMSA Office in Beijing.
