Katharina Ronacher is an Associate Professor at the University of Queensland and Head of the Infection, Immunity and Metabolism Group at Mater Research Institute/Translational Research Institute, Brisbane, Australia.
She started her research career with a MSc degree in Medical Biochemistry (cum laude) from the University of Vienna, Austria, followed by a PhD from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She then worked at Stellenbosch University on several large clinical tuberculosis biomarker trials funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the European Union and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2015 she was awarded a NIH R01 grant as Principal Investigator to study the underlying immunological alterations contributing to increased susceptibility of diabetes patients to tuberculosis.
Katharina recently relocated to Australia, where continues her research on host metabolism and immune function with focus on identifying novel host-directed therapies for TB.
